About the Telecast
The telecast, which highlighted the role of elected officials in the marketing of transportation systems management and operations, aired live on June 7, 2005. Elected officials are critical to assure cultural changes and can affect a paradigm shift in current thinking about improving infrastructure performance. Many States and localities are working to alleviate the challenges they face by adopting more progressive strategies for operating transportation systems, including the use of state-of-the-art technologies. As decision makers understand these challenges and adopt and support new operations strategies, quality of life and economic vitality are often improved.
During this telecast, elected officials from all levels of government discussed transportation management and operations. Guests discussed statewide traffic incident management efforts to reduce fatalities and improve public safety in both urban and rural areas, as well as the value of operating and maintaining the nation's transportation infrastructure to ensure security and global competitiveness. Local and regional representatives discussed the role of the planning community to assist in the facilitation of national forums for coordination and cooperation.
